Hyderabad: Regional Retreat - 2025 commenced on Thursday at the State Institute of Correctional Administration (SICA), Hyderabad, bringing together prison personnel from Warder to Deputy Jailor cadres from across Telangana. In a first-of-its-kind initiative, the Telangana Prisons department has organised a State-level Retreat under the leadership of Dr Soumya Mishra, Director General of Prisons and Correctional Services. Unlike earlier interactions limited to range-level meetings, the Retreat provides a unified platform for frontline prison staff from across the State to directly share their views, challenges and suggestions. The objective of the Retreat is to strengthen prison administration by ensuring inclusive participation and encouraging field-level inputs. Suggestions and practical issues raised during the deliberations will be reviewed, consolidated, and placed before higher authorities for appropriate action, contributing to the modernisation and growth of the Department. Focused discussions were held on key themes, including prison security, staff discipline and welfare, drug addiction and de-addiction centres, issues relating to women and children in prisons, future-ready prisons, and the use of technology in prison administration. Participants were divided into six mixed teams comprising officers and staff from Deputy Jailor to Warder levels, ensuring active and inclusive engagement.
